"too nice"

I've been incredulous, at times, at how many people are hateful and judgmental towards my situation. The sum of all the negative messages that have been directed at me or sent to me personally has been too heavy to describe in one post.

My fiance and I were having a conversation about the fact that many people are "too nice" and worry too much about what others think of them (especially in Utah, it seems). Here is an article that explains the point pretty well: "Why Being Too Nice is a Problem" by Kim Giles of KSL. I like it because it's concise yet insightful--you don't have to read too terribly long to find what you're looking for.

As I read, I came to the realization that in many ways it fit what I had been experiencing, and I'm sure a lot of you will relate to it as well. I saw that I have been so concerned with what others thought of me my entire life. Especially after living at my dad's, I have had to come a long way in building my self-esteem back up to where it should have been.

I hope this article can help others look at themselves and realize that respecting yourself and learning to not place such high importance on other's opinions is so important in the process of truly loving yourself.
